CLEAR LAKE SHORES — A Galveston County jury sentenced 24-year-old Codey Lane Colvin to life in prison on Thursday, after convicting him of aggravated assault against a public servant, according to court records obtained by KGTX 7.
The conviction relates to an incident on August 8, 2024, when Sgt. Nathan Flores was shot in the arm during an overnight encounter on Glen Cove Boulevard. The officer had called for assistance from League City Police and the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office shortly before being shot.
Following the shooting, the suspect fled in a red Honda SUV, prompting a pursuit through League City and onto I-45. Houston Police joined the chase and deployed a helicopter to assist. The pursuit ended in northwest Houston near Watonga Boulevard after Colvin’s vehicle lost a tire. Colvin was taken into custody at the scene around 3 a.m.
The injured officer was treated at a hospital and released later that day.
At the time of the incident, Colvin had a criminal history that included prior charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and evading arrest. A separate credit card fraud charge was later disposed of, according to court documents.
With the life sentence now handed down, Colvin will remain in TDCJ and will not be eligible for parole for at least 30 years under Texas law.
