LEAGUE CITY – Police are actively investigating a bold robbery that took place Monday evening at the H-E-B grocery store located at 2955 South Gulf Freeway.
According to Officer Trevor Montero, who spoke with KGTX 7 over the phone, the incident was reported at approximately 5:05 PM. Police officers arrived on scene within four minutes, but the suspects had already fled by the time they got there.
Investigators say three Black males entered the store wearing black hoodies, face coverings, and surgical gloves. The suspects went straight to a jewelry repair and sales kiosk located inside the store. One of the suspects pepper-sprayed an employee, while the others smashed display cases and grabbed handfuls of jewelry and watches.
The suspects then ran out of the store and climbed into a waiting SUV, which left the property before officers could arrive.
Brent Allen, a local to this HEB, told KGTX 7 that he was there when the incident occurred.
“The glass breaking was loud.” said Allen. “The mace they used was pretty dominant and made all of us cough and back away.” he added.
Initial reports included concerns of gunfire, but Officer Montero confirmed that no shots were fired and no firearm was displayed during the robbery.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact the League City Police Department at (281) 332-2566. The case remains under active investigation.
