GALVESTON – Galveston officials are asking the public for input on potential transportation improvements along Seawall Boulevard and FM 3005.
The City of Galveston is studying the feasibility of adding a multimodal pathway along the corridor to improve safety and connectivity for pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and motorists.
City leaders say the study will examine possible improvements along the island corridor and help determine how future projects could be designed and prioritized.
At the same time, the city is advancing design work for a planned resurfacing project on Seawall Boulevard between 6th Street and 61st Street. Officials say that project could include a pilot multimodal component depending on the outcome of the study, public feedback, available funding and direction from the state.
According to the city, multimodal lanes were identified as a priority in a Seawall improvement study conducted in the early 2000s. Residents at the time cited improved lighting, public restrooms and multimodal lanes as key needs along the corridor.
Officials say the city has since invested in lighting and restroom facilities along the Seawall and plans to continue expanding those improvements as funding allows.
City leaders are encouraging residents, visitors, cyclists, pedestrians and local businesses to provide feedback through a public survey to help guide future transportation planning along the Seawall.
