BACLIFF – A habitual offender was arrested after a shooting in Bacliff, Texas, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded March 13 to the 4400 block of 18th Street, where they found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen.
Investigators identified the suspect as 42-year-old Michael Collins. According to authorities, the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation over a cigarette, during which Collins allegedly fired a handgun at the victim.
Collins was located and arrested without incident. The Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit processed the scene, and the victim positively identified Collins as the shooter.
The case was presented to the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office. Collins was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and bond was denied.
