La Marque receives three regional awards for parks and planning projects

LA MARQUE – The City of La Marque has received three Certificates of Recognition from the Houston-Galveston Area Council as part of its 2026 Parks and Natural Areas Awards program.

According to a press release, the awards recognize projects and initiatives across the Houston-Galveston region that focus on planning, environmental considerations, and public access to community spaces. The Houston-Galveston Area Council represents more than 100 local governments and agencies in the region.

La Marque was recognized in three categories.

In the Projects Over $500,000 category, the Mahan Park Boat Ramp Expansion was acknowledged for improvements to water access and recreational use.

In the Projects Under $500,000 category, the Mac McGaffey Highland Bayou Park All-Inclusive Playground was recognized for its accessibility features and inclusive design.

In the Planning Process/Policy Tools category, the Arts in the Parks: Sensory Sidewalk Project received recognition for incorporating public art and sensory elements into park spaces.

City officials said the projects reflect ongoing efforts related to park development, accessibility, and community planning.
