BACLIFF – After more than four decades, an arrest has been made in the murders tied to the Calder Road Killing Field in League City.
According to the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, 61-year-old James Dolphs Elmore Jr. was arrested Tuesday near his Bacliff home after a grand jury indicted him on manslaughter and two counts of tampering with evidence in connection with the deaths of Laura Miller and Audrey Cook.
Both victims were among four women found buried in an oil field off Calder Drive, a site that later became known as the Killing Fields.
Prosecutors say the case was reopened following a renewed investigation, which included new information provided by Elmore in 2022. Officials say he shared details about the killings that had not been made public, helping investigators connect the cases.
Authorities have long identified Clyde Hedrick as a primary suspect. He died earlier this month before charges could be filed.
Elmore is now in custody at the Galveston County Jail as the case moves forward.
A press conference will take place on Wednesday, according to Micheal Lumpkin of the Galveston County DA’s Office.
