Carnival Cruise Line is expanding its accessibility initiatives with a new milestone at one of its private destinations in the Bahamas.

The company announced that Celebration Key, located on Grand Bahama, has received sensory inclusion certification from KultureCity. According to Carnival, it is the first cruise destination to earn that designation.

The certification comes during World Autism Acceptance Month and reflects a broader push to better accommodate guests with sensory sensitivities and invisible disabilities, including autism, PTSD and dementia.

As part of the designation, more than 400 employees at the destination have completed specialized training to assist guests who may need additional support. The destination now also offers sensory bags at no cost, which include noise-reducing headphones, fidget tools and visual aids designed to help guests communicate their needs.

Carnival says the effort builds on a six-year partnership with KultureCity that has included similar training for onboard crew members and customer service staff who assist guests during the booking process.

Company President Christine Duffy said the goal is to make cruise vacations more accessible for families traveling with sensory needs. Representatives from KultureCity added that the certification is intended to help create a more inclusive travel experience by anticipating and accommodating a range of guest needs.

To mark the recognition, Carnival is also hosting a temporary sensory-friendly space at Celebration Key, giving visitors a controlled, low-stimulation environment during their stay.

Carnival expects more than two million guests to visit the destination, making it one of the company’s largest tourism projects in the region.
