GALVESTON — A Galveston County man already accused of helping conceal bodies tied to the long-running “Texas Killing Fields” investigation is now facing an additional criminal charge, according to court records.
James Elmore, who was previously charged with manslaughter and tampering with evidence, has now also been charged with possession of child sexual abuse material. His total bond has been set at $4.5 million.
Investigators say the latest charge stems from evidence discovered at the time of Elmore’s arrest on March 31, when authorities allegedly found illicit images on a phone he was carrying.
Prosecutors allege Elmore played a role in helping longtime suspect Clyde Edwin Hedrick conceal the remains of Laura Miller and Audrey Cook, two victims connected to the stretch of Southeast Texas commonly referred to as the Texas Killing Fields.
According to court documents, Elmore told investigators that Hedrick burned a structure on a Bacliff property with two women inside and later buried their remains at the site.
That property, where Elmore was living at the time, became the focus of a multi-day search beginning April 16. Officials with the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office said the search did not uncover any human remains, and no additional searches are currently planned.
Hedrick died by suicide in March.
