TEXAS CITY — CASA of Galveston County is the recipient of a $5,000 grant from the Texas Bar Foundation to provide family engagement tool kits for parties involved in child welfare cases.

Established in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $30 million in grants to law-related programs and is recognized as the largest charitably funded bar foundation in the nation.

The awarded grant will fund Collaborative Family Engagement (CFE) Tool Kits for the Texas Department of Family Services’ (DFPS) Family Based Safety Services (FBSS), Conservatorship workers (CVS), and CASA advocate volunteers to enhance family engagement, strengthen permanency planning and improve communication and case outcomes for children under court-ordered supervision.

The project ensures that the voices and rights of children and families are better represented throughout legal proceedings and case management by identifying familial and other supports, ultimately minimizing the number of needed removals.

The tool kits will offer and support opportunities to identify and explore to build a network of family, kinship and community for children and families across Galveston County.
