LA MARQUE — A suspect was taken into custody after leading officers on a vehicle pursuit and running from a crash scene Thursday, according to the La Marque Police Department.
Police said officers were initially dispatched April 30 to a disturbance call that may have involved a firearm.
When officers located a vehicle matching the suspect description, they attempted to stop it, but the driver fled, prompting a pursuit.
Authorities said the chase ended after the vehicle was involved in a minor crash. The driver then ran from the scene toward an open field in the 3200 block of Interstate 45.
Officers set up a perimeter and began searching the area. The suspect was later found and taken into custody with the help of a K9 unit.
Police identified the suspect as Marcel Powell.
Powell is charged with evading arrest in a vehicle and unlawful carrying of a weapon after a firearm was recovered from the vehicle. His bonds total $42,500.
The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and Texas City Police Department assisted in the response.
