LA MARQUE – The race for the District B seat on the La Marque City Council continues to draw attention ahead of the upcoming runoff election, as candidate Sade Williams has received endorsements from multiple local figures following the May 2 election.

According to unofficial election results, candidates Joe Compian and Williams each received 35.67% of the vote, resulting in a tie and advancing both candidates to a runoff election. Candidates Felix Brown and Jody Richards were eliminated from the race.

Following the election, Brown announced his endorsement of Williams.

“I believe it’s time for change,” Brown said. “Mrs. Williams has no history on this council and I believe a fresh set of eyes with fresh ideas is definitely what is needed. She has kids that are in school, so I know that there is a vested interest in this community for the future of the youth.”

Richards has also announced his endorsement of Williams following the election.

“Although Sade and I were opponents in the initial election, I truly believe she cares about the future of La Marque and the people who call this community home,” Richards said. “I believe her desire to serve comes from a sincere place.”

Richards added that he respects Williams’ investment in the community “not just politically, but personally,” and said he believes she wants to see La Marque “move forward in a positive direction and bring fresh energy and perspective to the council.”

Williams has also received an endorsement from Hitchcock’s former Mayor pro Tem Andre Perkins.

“Change can be daunting, but there comes a time when we must trade the old ways for the new,” Perkins said. “You can’t make progress moving in reverse. When you walk backwards, you stumble. When you move forward, you can see exactly where you are going.”

Perkins added that he believes “the city of La Marque is ready for an uplift” and said the city needs “fresh energy and new ideas.”

Williams said she appreciates the support she has received during the runoff campaign.

“I’m truly grateful for the endorsements and support I’ve received during this runoff,” Williams said. “As a mother raising my children in La Marque, and with my father being born and raised here, this city means something deeply personal to me.”

Williams added that she believes the community is “ready for leadership that is approachable, engaged, and focused on the future of our neighborhoods, families, and youth.”
