CLEAR LAKE SHORES — Residents gathered in costume, inflatable outfits and running shoes on May 2 as Z Krewe of Galveston hosted its fifth annual 0.5K fundraiser in Clear Lake Shores.
The half-kilometer event, known for its fun atmosphere and creative participants rather than athletic competition, raised money this year for the Galveston County Food Bank’s Kidz Pacz Summer Program, which provides meals for children during the summer months.
The event was held at Galveston Bay Brewing, which served as the event’s Big Kahuna Sponsor.
Participants took part in themed hydration stations, visited local vendors and enjoyed live music throughout the afternoon. One of the featured activities was the Inflata-Derby, where participants raced in inflatable costumes along the course.
Organizers also recognized several hydration station sponsors, including Backyard Brewing, Naked Iguana Brewery, Hendley Wine Co., Saloon Door West and Rita Runners.
Scrumptious served as the event’s Carb Loading Station Sponsor, providing snacks and refreshments for participants.
Additional sponsors included Davenports in Clear Lake, Ace Electronics, Pam Iltis and David Mulcihy, and Stokes Hardware.
“We created the 0.5K to bring people together for something fun, ridiculous, and meaningful,” Kristie Schoppe of Z Krewe said in a statement. “The support from our sponsors, volunteers, vendors, and participants allows us to give back to our community while creating an event people genuinely look forward to every year.”
Organizers said the event has continued to grow each year while supporting local charitable efforts and bringing together residents from across the Clear Lake area.
