LEAGUE CITY — Court records reviewed by KGTX 7 show that the man now charged with the murder of Joanna Walton had previously been convicted in a case involving the same victim and later faced an additional criminal allegation that remained unresolved until this week.
According to Galveston Police, Isaiah Johnson turned himself in on Monday before being charged with Walton’s murder.
KGTX 7’s review of court records found that Johnson pleaded guilty in 2023 to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Court documents state Johnson attempted to shoot Walton, but the firearm malfunctioned. Prosecutors alleged he then struck her with the handgun. Johnson was sentenced to 30 days in jail.
Court records further show Johnson was later accused of breaking into Walton’s apartment in August 2025. An arrest warrant was issued in that case, but records indicate it was not served until Johnson surrendered to police on Monday.
ABC13 Houston also reported that it asked the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office whether Harris County authorities had been notified about the outstanding warrant. According to ABC13, the office responded, “No comment.”
