DICKINSON — Shining Light Productions is preparing to bring Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to the stage later this month, marking a milestone for the community theater ministry’s growing lineup of productions.

The musical, featuring lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, will run July 22-25 with performances beginning at 7 p.m.

According to Executive Director Nikki Gray, the production represents the organization’s first adult summer main-stage musical.

“This is our first full season for Shining Light Productions,” Gray said. “This is special because this is our adult main-stage production and our first summer production for adults.”

Gray serves as both executive director of Shining Light Productions and director of worship arts and music at Dickinson First United Methodist Church. She said Shining Light Productions operates as a community theater and outreach ministry of the church.

“Shining Light Productions is a ministry branch of Dickinson First United Methodist Church,” Gray said. “It is its own community theater, but it does serve as an outreach ministry of Dickinson First United Methodist Church.”

The organization has previously produced Alan Menken’s A Christmas Carol during the holiday season and staged Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap as part of its inaugural season. Earlier this summer, the theater also presented Shrek Jr. as its children’s production.

Gray said the latest production reflects the organization’s goal of creating opportunities for the community to come together through the performing arts.

“We felt that this was the time where this is truly a community theater,” Gray said. “It’s the one chance that Dickinson has an opportunity to really enjoy theater together.”

She added that the production offers a celebration of singing, dancing, acting and storytelling while sharing a message of hope and redemption.

“We’re very excited to share this with the community,” Gray said.
