ALVIN — A detached garage containing multiple vehicles was destroyed in a Tuesday evening fire near Alvin, and one firefighter was hospitalized after experiencing a medical emergency while battling the blaze, according the Alvin Volunteer Fire Department Scott Salter.

Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 8:47 p.m. to the 5000 block of County Road 266 for a reported structure fire.

According to the fire department, Engine 11, Tanker 1 and Rescue 1 arrived within seven minutes and found a detached garage fully engulfed in flames. Officials said multiple vehicles were inside the structure, and a nearby fifth-wheel trailer was threatened by the fire.

Firefighters began suppression efforts immediately. Due to the heavy fire conditions and the need for additional water and personnel, mutual aid was requested from Santa Fe Fire & Rescue. Santa Fe responded with a truck company and tanker, while Alvin Volunteer Fire Department Engine 12 arrived with additional firefighters.

Officials said crews encountered a significant fire load involving several vehicles, including vintage cars, utility terrain vehicles (UTVs), go-karts and dirt bikes. Approximately 8,000 gallons of water were used to extinguish the fire.

During the response, one firefighter suffered a medical emergency and was treated at the scene by Alvin EMS before being transported to Memorial Hermann Convenient Care in Alvin for further evaluation. The firefighter was reported to be in stable condition and undergoing additional testing.

No residents or other firefighters were injured.

The Brazoria County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
