Sunshine And Daily Storm Chances Dominate This Week

Dominic Dragon Avatar

A slightly drier air mass is in place across the area following the passage of that weak cold front over the weekend, keeping dew points lower to start the week. Areas inland will unfortunately still see temperatures approaching 100°F this afternoon, while coastal areas will stay in the low to mid 90s. A sea breeze is expected to move inland through the afternoon, and a small chance for an isolated shower or storm exists along that boundary, but most locations will stay dry today. A small 10% chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm will persist through the first half of the week, but starting Thursday those chances slightly increase.

Muggier Midweek

As we head into the middle of the week, continuous and persistent onshore flow off the Gulf will slowly increase dew points across the area. Even though afternoon highs will actually drop a couple degrees into the low-to-mid-90s due to this sea breeze, the increasing humidity will make it feel just as hot if not hotter. Heat safety remains important through midweek and beyond. Stay hydrated, wear light and loose fitting clothing, and limit extended outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.

Increasing Storm Chances

As the onshore flow deepens midweek and increases moisture levels in the area, it will also increase the chances for daily showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening during peak heating. Widespread rainfall is not expected, but coverage definitely increases compared to the start of the week and a few storms could contain locally heavy rainfall.

Summary For The Week

  • A slightly drier start to the week, but temperatures still approaching 100°F inland this afternoon and can’t rule out an isolated shower or storm
  • Humidity slowly builds through midweek as onshore Gulf flow increases
  • Storm chances increase Thursday and beyond; locally heavy rainfall is possible with any stronger storms that form throughout the day
