La Marque mayor released from jail as details emerge in indecent case

Staff Reports Avatar

LA MARQUE — Keith Bell remains mayor of La Marque for now, following his arrest on an indecent exposure charge and subsequent release on a $75,000 bond, city officials said Saturday.

According to the City of La Marque, Bell was released Saturday, Aug. 22, with conditions prohibiting him from contacting the complainant, going near her residence or going near the school she attends.

Bell was arrested Friday in Brazoria County on a charge of indecent exposure. The City of La Marque previously said the alleged incident occurred outside of Bell’s official duties as mayor.

According to ABC13, citing an update from the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 9:30 a.m. Friday to a report of a man exposing himself inside an office building in Angleton.

The complainant told deputies she entered the lobby area and saw Bell sitting in an office chair with his genitals exposed and allegedly engaging in a sexual act, according to ABC13’s report. She then turned away and contacted law enforcement.

The City of La Marque said Saturday that city leadership has not communicated with Bell since his arrest and that Bell has not reached out to city staff.

Under the La Marque City Charter, Bell remains in office unless he resigns or is removed in accordance with the charter and applicable law, according to the city.

The city said it has no additional information to share at this time.
