GALVESTON — A suspicious package found at Murdoch’s Pier was destroyed by an explosive ordnance disposal team Thursday evening after a bomb threat prompted the evacuation of customers and employees, Galveston police said.
Officers were dispatched to the business in the 2200 block of Seawall Boulevard at approximately 5:54 p.m. Thursday regarding a reported bomb threat.
According to police, the business manager decided to evacuate customers and employees as officers responded to the scene.
Responding officers located an unattended package and called in an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team to evaluate it.
After examining the package, the EOD team determined the safest course of action was to destroy it in place, according to police.
Investigators subsequently examined the remnants and determined the package was not a live explosive device.
Authorities gave the all-clear at approximately 8:20 p.m., about two and a half hours after officers were initially dispatched.
Police did not immediately provide information about the nature of the original bomb threat, who may have made it or what the package contained.
