SANTA FE — Firefighters battled a trailer fire for about 20 minutes late Friday night in the 2500 block of FM 646, according to Santa Fe Battalion Chief Victor Boudreaux.

Crews were dispatched around 11 p.m. and arrived to find flames coming from the trailer. Boudreaux told KGTX 7 that the fire was blocking both entrances, complicating firefighters’ efforts to get inside.

A double-layered roof presented another challenge. Firefighters encountered a metal roof that concealed burning wood underneath, making the flames more difficult to reach and extinguish.

The family who lived in the trailer was not home when the fire broke out. Firefighters searched the structure for a puppy reported to be inside. The animal’s condition was not immediately confirmed.

Crews from the La Marque and Hitchcock fire departments assisted Santa Fe firefighters at the scene.

The cause of the fire was not immediately available.
