GALVESTON — A Galveston man is facing a child pornography possession charge following a joint investigation by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and Pearland Police Department, authorities said.

Mac Reeve Land, 47, was charged with possession of child pornography involving more than 10 but fewer than 50 visual depictions. Bond was set at $250,000.

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit began its investigation in August after Detective A. Espinosa, a member of the Houston Metro Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, according to the sheriff’s office.

Pearland police were investigating the same suspect separately, and the agencies combined their efforts as the case developed, authorities said.

Investigators executed a search warrant Sept. 9 at a home in the 4500 block of Avenue O 1/2 in Galveston, where they seized multiple electronic devices for forensic analysis.

Land is being held by the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office on separate smuggling of persons charges filed by the Kinney County Sheriff’s Office, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said a hold has been placed on him in connection with the Galveston County case.

The investigation involved members of the Houston Metro ICAC Task Force, including Homeland Security Investigations-Galveston, Pearland police, La Porte police, La Marque police, Dickinson police and the FBI’s Texas City office.
