GALVESTON – Firefighters were working Friday morning to contain a fire involving a pile of metal debris at a Galveston recycling facility.
The Galveston Fire Department was dispatched around 11:30 a.m. to the facility at 702 61st St. Multiple crews responded and used a backhoe to break apart and level the debris pile as part of the firefighting effort.
Fire officials and plant management told KGTX 7 they believed a battery in the debris might have been to blame.
No injuries had been reported, officials said.
