Sicilian Village Olives heads to Walmart Open Call after more than two decades in business

LEAGUE CITY – David and Stacey Quartaro, the owners of Sicilian Village Olives, are preparing to take their products to Walmart’s Open Call on Oct. 7, marking another milestone for a business that began more than two decades ago.

Sicilian Village launched in August 2004, with its olives based on a recipe passed down from David’s grandfather, Vincent.

The business initially began by selling olives at arts and crafts shows in Friendswood. The products quickly caught customers’ attention, often selling out within the first hour of each show.

Demand continued outside of the events, with strangers regularly reaching out and asking the family to make olives for them. Those requests became a weekly occurrence.

As interest in the products grew, David began working on a business plan. He asked his grandfather, Vincent, whether he wanted to join the business, but Vincent declined, telling David it was his business and encouraging him to pursue it himself while offering his support.

David’s wife, Stacey, supported him as the business grew and now works for the company.

Today, Sicilian Village offers several varieties, including Marinated Green Olives, Marinated Green and Black Olives, and Marinated Kalamata Olives with Rosemary and Garlic.

The company’s products are now available in approximately 3,000 locations nationwide and in Mexico, including retailers such as Hy-Vee, Albertsons and H-E-B.

On Oct. 7, Sicilian Village will take its next step as the company participates in Walmart’s Open Call, giving the longtime business an opportunity to bring its products to another major retailer.
