KEMAH – A delivery drone operated by Wing crashed in Kemah late Sunday afternoon, prompting a response from the fire department after a small fire was reported.
The incident occurred around 5:27 p.m. as the drone was returning from a delivery from the Walmart.
Officials said the aircraft went down outside a parking lot near Denny’s, on FM-518. Originally, the call came in as a grass fire, before officials were aware of drone involvement.
The delivery drones were introduced as an option at the Kemah Walmart in early February. Fire Chief Suniga stated the drones are made of a foam material.
The cause of the crash has not been identified.
