A program designed to teach children business and leadership skills is returning to Galveston County, with several events planned ahead of this year’s Lemonade Day Galveston County.

Local chambers of commerce are hosting a series of activities in April to help participants prepare, including lemonade stand-building workshops and tasting contests.

The Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a “Build a Stand, Spark a Dream” event on April 18 at Chalmers Hardware, where registered participants can assemble their own stands and take part in a best-tasting lemonade competition.

On the mainland, the League City Regional Chamber of Commerce is holding a similar tasting contest on April 11 at its office in League City.

Lemonade Day is open to youth ages 5 to 18 and focuses on teaching financial literacy, goal setting, and basic business skills through the experience of running a lemonade stand.

The chamber says the program encourages entrepreneurship at an early age, with many participants expressing interest in owning a business after taking part.

Lemonade Day Galveston County is set for May 2, when young participants will set up stands across the area. A follow-up celebration event is also planned for May 7 in Galveston.

Registration and additional information are available through the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce.
