GALVESTON — A 61-year-old Galveston man has been charged with indecency with a child following an investigation that began last year, according to the Galveston Police Department.

Police said detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigations Division opened the case in October 2025 after receiving a report about an incident that allegedly took place in March 2024.

According to investigators, the victim, who is now 18, told authorities she had been victimized by a family member when she was 16.

Following the investigation, the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office authorized a charge of indecency with a child by contact against Stephen Lee Austin, 61, of Galveston.

Police said Austin was arrested April 28 by the department’s Warrant Division and booked into the Galveston County Jail.

His bond was set at $100,000.
