TEXAS CITY — Two people were rescued Saturday evening after a boat reportedly took on water and capsized near Texas City, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Shirzad told KGTX 7 News that Texas City Police received a report at approximately 5:22 p.m. of a vessel that had taken on water and capsized.
Following the report, the Coast Guard issued an urgent marine information broadcast, notifying vessels in the area and requesting assistance from nearby mariners.
A Good Samaritan responded and assisted in the rescue effort.
According to the Coast Guard, two people were aboard the vessel at the time of the incident. Their conditions have not been released.
The cause of the flooding that led to the vessel capsizing remains under investigation, and officials have not yet determined what caused the boat to take on water.
