COUNTYWIDE — Five food establishments across Galveston County were ordered to undergo a follow-up inspection after recent health inspections documented food safety violations ranging from improper food temperatures and cross-contamination risks to sanitation concerns.
The inspections were conducted by the Galveston County Health District as part of its routine food safety program.
Facilities requiring re-inspection
Nopalera Enterprises
1736 Texas Avenue, Texas City
Inspectors documented multiple violations, including pico de gallo and cooked fajita meat being held at 70 degrees, placing the food within the temperature danger zone where bacteria can rapidly grow.
Inspectors also found raw meat stored above peeled potatoes, creating a cross-contamination risk, and observed employees working without valid food handler certifications.
Dickinson Seafood
131 FM 517, Dickinson
The inspection found ready-to-eat foods without proper date marking, uncovered food stored in coolers, and an ice scoop stored inside the ice bin with the handle touching the ice.
Ol’ Mothers Speakeasy
3505 Highway 146, Bacliff
Inspectors cited the establishment after finding mold-like buildup inside the ice machine, ice stored in an unsanitary container, evidence of rodent activity inside a vending machine, and single-use cups stored on a towel rather than a clean, sanitary surface.
Jack in the Box
2109 9th Avenue North, Texas City
Inspectors found raw chicken stored above lettuce, creating a risk of cross-contamination. They also documented an HVAC condensate drain leaking into the three-compartment sink used for washing, rinsing and sanitizing utensils.
Dee Best Food Mart
2502 Texas Avenue, Texas City
The inspection found cold foods and hot foods being held outside required temperatures, an ice scoop stored on a dirty surface, and raw ground beef stored above raw roast inside a cooler.
