TEXAS CITY — The Texas City Museum will offer free admission on Friday, July 3, giving visitors access to its permanent exhibits as well as two new temporary displays.

The museum, located at 409 6th Street North, will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features approximately 30,000 square feet of exhibits focused on local and Texas history. Attractions include a Children’s Discovery Center and an interactive model train exhibit on the second floor.

Museum officials said the free admission day will coincide with the opening of a new exhibit titled “Texas City Then and Now,” along with a traveling exhibition from Humanities Texas called “The Declaration of Independence and the Pursuit of Equality.”

According to the city, the “Texas City Then and Now” exhibit was created in part by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission and is on loan from Moore Memorial Public Library.

The Humanities Texas exhibit is adapted from a larger project developed by historian Denver Brunsman in collaboration with multiple scholars. It was supported by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The museum said the event is designed to provide residents and visitors with an opportunity to explore local history and national themes tied to the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
