LEAGUE CITY — A League City man is dead after police say he allegedly attacked his elderly neighbor, prompting the woman’s nephew to intervene.
According to reporting by i45NOW, the incident happened around 9:35 p.m. Friday, July 3, in the 1300 block of Strawberry Street.
League City police say 49-year-old Jeremy Winter allegedly assaulted his 84-year-old neighbor. During the attack, the woman’s 60-year-old nephew intervened and placed Winter in a chokehold. Winter died during the struggle.
Investigators have not determined what led to the alleged attack.
According to i45NOW, the Galveston County Medical Examiner is awaiting toxicology results as investigators work to determine whether drugs played a role in Winter’s death. An official cause and manner of death have not yet been released.
Police have not filed charges against the nephew, and investigators believe his actions appear to fall under Texas law allowing the defense of a third person. The case could still be presented to a grand jury for review, which is common in cases involving a death.
