Rocky Horror’s Tim Curry Passes at 80

KGTX Editors Avatar

Tim Curry, best known for playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Pennywise in the 1990 miniseries It, has died at the age of 80.

According to reports broken on Wednesday by TMZ and confirmed by outlets like CBS News, Curry passed away at his home in Los Angeles.

Curry became a cultural icon in 1975 with The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a role he originally performed on stage in London and Los Angeles. Over a career spanning decades, he built a reputation for playing memorable villains and eccentric characters, including Mr. Hector in Home Alone 2 and Rooster Hannigan in Annie, alongside extensive voice acting work in animation.

In 2012, Curry suffered a major stroke that required surgery and left him using a wheelchair. He stepped back from on-screen acting afterward, though he continued making occasional convention appearances and voice acting cameos, and released a memoir titled Vagabond.

Fans and fellow actors are sharing tributes online as news of his death spreads.
