
GALVESTON — A 58-year-old Bryan woman died Saturday after she was found unresponsive in shallow water along Galveston’s Seawall, Galveston Island Beach Patrol Chief Austin Kirwin confirmed to KGTX 7.
Beach Patrol was dispatched around 4:47 p.m. to the area of 73rd Street and Seawall Boulevard after receiving a report that a woman had been pulled from the water.
Bystanders had pulled the woman from about two feet of water and began performing CPR before Beach Patrol personnel arrived, according to Kirwin. Lifeguards continued CPR until Galveston EMS arrived and took over treatment.
The woman was transported to the University of Texas Medical Branch, where she was pronounced dead at 5:38 p.m.
Her identity has not been released pending notification of her family.
The circumstances surrounding what caused the woman to become unresponsive remain unclear.
