ANGLETON – In last night’s game between two undefeated rivals in their district, the Friendswood Mustangs would end up taking their first loss of the season against the equally threatening Angleton Wildcats, 28-21.
A common issue that has been popping up in previous games for Friendswood is turning the ball over on the first couple of drives in the first half. Friday, that problem continued as Wildcats cornerback Devyn Evans picked off Mustangs gunslinging quarterback Josh Brister, allowing Anderson great field position to work with. Anderson finished their drive with a 30-yard touchdown run by halfback Kasen Jammer to give the Wildcats the early lead, 7-0.
Despite an otherwise defensive bout in the first half, Friendswood would find itself scoreless come halftime, 10-0.
Upon Wildcats kicker Piotr Wlostowski missing a 37-yard field goal to open the third quarter, the Mustangs would change the deficit to a three-point lead as Brister throws a 20-yard touchdown pass to receiver Rit Johnson. The Wildcats answered at the beginning of the fourth quarter following a Friendswood fumble with a 23-yard touchdown to Wildcats running back Jayden Moore, extending the lead to 21-7.
Friendswood would find life as Brister heaves a 75-yard touchdown pass to Johnson, his second touchdown catch of the night, and an additional four-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 21 a piece. Unfortunately, after the two-minute warning, Wildcats quarterback Trey Gardner threads the needle to receiver Jake Brittain for a 60-yard touchdown to put the nail in the coffin.
While the defense may have pulled off some beneficial plays for Friendswood to regain momentum—a fumble recovery and interception by cornerback Dax Berry—the Mustangs run defense would allow over 300 rushing yards of total offense against the Wildcats.
With their bye week coming up next Friday, the Friendswood Mustangs would end their 2026 season at home against Randle (8-0) on Nov. 6, 7 p.m.
