Watching Development In Gulf – Rainy Week Ahead

Dominic Dragon Avatar

Key Takeaways

  • The National Hurricane Center is watching a weak area of low pressure in the north-central Gulf
  • Rain chances increase Tuesday and Wednesday as a tropical disturbance moves westward through the Gulf
  • Daily chances for isolated to scattered showers and storms return for the second half of the week

The National Hurricane Center is watching a tropical disturbance in the Gulf with a 70 percent chance of development over the next 48 hours. A somewhat weak area of low pressure is currently located about 125 miles south of the southeastern Louisiana coast, moving slowly west-northwestward. A short-lived tropical depression or tropical storm could form before the system reaches the Upper Texas or southwestern Louisiana coastline Tuesday or Tuesday night.

Regardless of whether this system officially develops, rainfall is possible along the Upper Texas and southwestern Louisiana coasts this week. Galveston County residents and anyone along the coast should monitor this system closely as it tracks in our direction. We will have updates as new information from the National Hurricane Center becomes available here at KGTX 7.

Looking at the 7-day forecast, rain chances increase significantly Tuesday into Wednesday as the Gulf disturbance tracks westward, before tapering off through the second half of the week. Highs stay in the upper 80s to around 90°F through the period (slightly cooler closer to the coastline), with overnight lows in the upper 70s. Stay tuned to KGTX 7 for updates as the tropical disturbance gets closer.

Have a great week!
