Deputies Take Suspect Into Custody After Hitchcock Barricade Situation

Stevie Bernardoni Avatar

HITCHCOCK — The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office took a suspect wanted on charges of obstruction and retaliation into custody Tuesday afternoon after the suspect barricaded inside a residence in Hitchcock.

The agency’s warrant division attempted to serve a warrant in the 6700 block of Bayou Road at approximately 4:30 p.m. The suspect refused to comply with officers and barricaded inside the residence, prompting a request for SWAT assistance at approximately 4:50 p.m.

The situation continued for several hours before the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident, according to Capt. Tommy Maffei.

Maffei said the department’s newly acquired equipment and tactical resources, including a Rook armored vehicle, that was acquired under the leadership of Sheriff Fullen contributed to the suspect’s surrender.

No additional details about the suspect’s identity or the underlying charges were immediately available.
