GALVESTON — Moody Gardens is preparing for a busy Labor Day weekend with four days of food, wine and entertainment, culminating Sunday night with the Galveston attraction’s first-ever drone show.

Events are scheduled Sept. 4-7, with the Galveston Island Wine Festival serving as one of the weekend’s main attractions.

The festival will bring together chefs from Houston, Galveston and elsewhere along the Gulf Coast for wine tastings and culinary events.

Among the participating chefs are David Cordúa, chef and owner of The Lymbar in Houston, and Concetta Maceo-Sims, owner of Maceo Spice & Import Co. and host of CW39’s “H-Town Eats: Cooking with Concetta.”

The culinary lineup also includes Brian Duffy, Trinidad “Machete” Gonzalez, Paul Miller of Gr8 Plate Hospitality, Executive Chef Sal Vera, Executive Chef Chris Lopez of BLVD. Seafood, Chef William Pickavance of Yaga’s Cafe and Executive Chef Bobby Lee Ross of Shearn’s Seafood & Prime Steaks at Moody Gardens.

Other participating chefs include Andres Castaneda, Executive Sous Chef Aaron Sekula, Executive Pastry Chef Kristy Riley and Vubang Nguyen.

Several signature events are planned throughout the wine festival, beginning with the White Linen Seafood Extravaganza on Friday. Penguins & Pinot: Grand Tasting will take place Saturday inside the Aquarium Pyramid, followed by the McPherson Cellars Wine Dinner on Sunday.

Wine tastings, brunch, poolside entertainment and live music are also scheduled throughout the weekend.

Outside the wine festival, Moody Gardens’ regular attractions will remain part of the holiday weekend lineup, including the Aquarium Pyramid, Rainforest Pyramid, Discovery Museum, Dinos Alive and Palm Beach.

Some attractions will operate with extended holiday hours and remain open as late as 7 p.m.

Sunday’s activities will include Palm Beach entertainment followed by a performance from One Fry Short Band from 6 to 9 p.m.

At 9 p.m., Moody Gardens will hold its first-ever drone show, featuring an aerial display over the property that organizers say will be visible to guests throughout the grounds.

Additional live performances during the weekend will include Mambo Jazz Kings, Lyda Plummer, Taylor Lauryn and Angelo Tolentino.

Labor Day weekend will also mark the final week of Moody Gardens’ 20% discount on select Holiday in the Gardens hotel packages and tickets.
