GALVESTON COUNTY — A Galveston County Sheriff’s Office deputy is no longer employed by the agency after Sheriff Jimmy Fullen reviewed video showing the deputy operating a marked patrol vehicle in a manner the sheriff called inappropriate and unacceptable.

According to the sheriff’s office, the video shows the deputy following another vehicle at an extremely close distance and operating the patrol vehicle in a way that occupied and impeded the lane of traffic, limiting other motorists’ ability to safely pass.

Fullen said the conduct was inconsistent with the standards expected of members of the sheriff’s office and would not be tolerated.

Following a review of the incident, the deputy was relieved of law enforcement duties and is no longer employed by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said deputies are expected to operate agency vehicles safely and professionally and in a manner that reflects the agency’s standards both on and off duty.

The terminated deputy was not named in the press release; KGTX 7 has reached out to inquire the identity.
