GALVESTON — A Galveston County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been arrested and released on bond following an investigation into allegations of harassment and family violence, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Chief Deputy Melencio Villarreal told KGTX 7 the matter initially came in as a complaint and was investigated administratively by the Sheriff’s Office.
“Came in as a complaint, looked into it administratively, we found evidence of possible charges, consulted with DA office and integrity office, probable cause for harassment and family violence,” Villarreal said.
Villarreal said investigators drafted arrest warrants after determining there was probable cause. The deputy later surrendered to authorities and was cooperative during the process, he said.
According to Galveston County records, the deputy was released on a $12,500 bond.
Villarreal also confirmed the deputy was terminated from the Sheriff’s Office last Thursday.
According to i45NOW, the deputy, identified as Khaled, had previously served as a school resource officer with Dickinson ISD.
The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office says its Office of Professional Standards handles administrative investigations involving allegations of employee misconduct. The office states that criminal allegations may be presented for prosecution when an investigation indicates possible criminal conduct.
