BACLIFF — A 19-year-old Bacliff man was arrested Tuesday after the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office said he confessed to shooting a person in the leg during an incident in Bacliff.
Deputies responded to a residence in the 4800 block of 14th Street on Sept. 29 in reference to a reported shooting. According to GCSO, deputies found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the left leg and provided medical assistance before the victim was transported to HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake.
The Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation.
GCSO said detectives interviewed multiple witnesses and identified the suspect as 19-year-old Francisco Hurtado. Investigators said witnesses told them Hurtado had left the scene before deputies arrived.
Deputies later located Hurtado as he was leaving the residence of an associate and detained him while the investigation continued.
According to GCSO, Hurtado was interviewed by Major Crimes Unit detectives and confessed to shooting the victim.
The case was presented to the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, which approved a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Hurtado’s bond was set at $75,000.
The investigation remains ongoing.

BACLIFF — The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred in the 4800 block of 14th Street in Bacliff on Monday night.
According to GCSO Captain Tommy Maffei, the call was received around 10:15 p.m.
Scanner traffic indicated that the suspect fled the scene and that the victim later left the area and met with EMS before being transported to HCA Houston Clear Lake. The victim’s current condition and the extent of their injuries are unknown.
Neighbors also reported hearing a vehicle speeding away from the area.
According to Maffei, members of the Criminal Investigation Division and crime scene units were en-route to the scene.
At this time, scanner traffic indicates that a person of interest has been identified, but no one has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.
