Electrical Issue to Blame for Sunday House Fire in Hitchcock

Lyndi Guthrie Avatar

HITCHCOCK — The Hitchcock Fire Department responded to a fully involved house fire in the 6900 block of Mike Avenue at approximately 11 p.m. Sunday.

Firefighters received reports that someone might be inside the home, according to Hitchcock Fire Chief Matthew Creighton.

Hitchcock firefighters were the first to arrive and began a defensive attack on the fire. Mutual aid crews from La Marque, Santa Fe and Bayou Vista also responded.

Firefighters later transitioned to an attack through the front door. Creighton said it took approximately 20 to 30 minutes to extinguish the flames.

No one was inside the home at the time of the fire, and the resident was elsewhere, officials said. No injuries were reported.

An investigator responded to the scene and determined that the fire was caused by an electrical issue.
