Bike Around the Bay
Bike Around the Bay returns for its 19th year as a two-day, 170-mile bicycle ride around Galveston Bay.
Riders are expected to begin arriving on Galveston Island by ferry after 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. From the ferry landing, participants will travel along Harborside Drive to 25th Street, then Seawall Boulevard to 81st Street before continuing to Moody Gardens for an overnight stay.
On Sunday, Oct. 18, riders will travel from Moody Gardens to Jones Drive, Stewart Road and 61st Street before heading to the causeway to continue their route.
To accommodate cyclists Saturday, the south Seawall parking lane and the south lane of eastbound traffic between 25th and 81st streets will be restricted to cyclists. Vehicle traffic will remain open in both directions, but eastbound traffic in that area will be temporarily reduced to one lane until riders complete that portion of the course.
Bike Around the Island
Bike Around the Island, a separate ride held in conjunction with the event, offers 20-mile and 43-mile route options entirely on Galveston Island.
The one-day ride begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at Moody Gardens, with participants expected to finish at the same location by 1 p.m.
Riders will travel from Moody Gardens to Lockheed Road and Piper Street before turning onto 83rd Street and heading south to Stewart Road. They will continue along Stewart Road to 13 Mile Road, then turn onto FM 3005, also known as San Luis Pass Road, and head west toward the end of the island before making a U-turn.
Third Coast Pride Parade
The Third Coast Pride Parade is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 18, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. The event celebrates October as LGBTQIA+ History Month and is described by organizers as family-friendly.
A family fun area will be located at Hendley Green, near 21st and Strand streets.
