LA MARQUE — After eight years of investigation, the La Marque Police Department made an arrest on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, in connection with a 2017 homicide.
According to press release, John Carter, in connection with a cold case homicide, was arrested by investigators and has been charged with murder on top of being given a $500,000 bond.
The arrest was thanks to Cold Case Detective Cypert re-opening the case and successfully securing a warrant for Carter’s arrest. Members of both the La Marque Police Department’s Special Response Team and Crime Scene Unit executed the arrest with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force’s assistance.

“The LMPD CID Division continues to work diligently to bring all subjects who have committed violent crimes in La Marque to justice,” Deputy Chief Waggoner said, “The LMPD Patrol Division and CSU Division work hard to keep the streets safe and immediately apprehend anyone committing crimes, especially those contributing to violence, in the City of La Marque.”
Authorities have not released the full details of the 2017 investigation, but confirmed Carter’s arrest was a major step towards justice.
