Two Arrested After Children, Animals Found in Vehicle at Galveston Walmart

GALVESTON — Two people were arrested Saturday after police reportedly found children and animals inside a vehicle parked at a Walmart on Seawall Boulevard.

According to information first reported by Grizzy’s Hood News, Galveston police responded to the Walmart located at 6702 Seawall Blvd. following a report that several young children had been left inside a minivan with the vehicle turned off.

Witnesses reported that one of the children appeared unresponsive when officers arrived and had to be awakened. Authorities also reportedly found multiple animals inside the vehicle, including kittens showing signs consistent with heat exhaustion and several dogs.

Galveston County Jail records reviewed by KGTX 7 News show 28-year-old Hashim Ayinde Murphy was charged with three counts of Abandoning or Endangering a Child with Intent to Return, three counts of Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animals, Interference with Public Duties, and Resisting Arrest, Search, or Transport.

Jail records also show 35-year-old Sara Kathryn McMillan was charged with three counts of Abandoning or Endangering a Child with Intent to Return and three counts of Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animals.

According to jail records, both Murphy and McMillan remained in custody with bond denied as of Saturday.

KGTX 7 News has reached out to the Galveston Police Department for additional information and is working to independently verify further details of the incident.
