FRIENDSWOOD — FISD welcomed the new school year Thursday with its ninth annual “Under the Oaks” celebration.
The event took place under the oak trees at the center of the district, bringing together students, families, staff, and community members. Guests enjoyed kettle corn, lemonade, and performances by the Friendswood High School drumline, cheerleaders, and the Wranglerettes.

“This evening is about celebrating our students and the bright futures ahead of them,” said Executive Director of Communications Lauren Traina. “It’s about honoring our exceptional educators and recognizing our community’s support.”
Superintendent Thad Roher said Friendswood ISD is known for strong academics and a close community.

“The Mustang spirit drives us to support one another and make a difference in our students’ lives,” Roher said.
The Under the Oaks tradition started nine years ago and continues to be a way for the district to connect with the community before the start of school.
