LA MARQUE – A Galveston County jury has sentenced Edmond Porter to 50 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for a violent kidnapping in La Marque last year.

According to a La Marque Press Release, Porter’s sentencing came after a weeklong trial in the 56th District Court that began August 4, 2025. During the proceedings, jurors also heard testimony in a separate case accusing Porter of sexually assaulting a child. The victim in that case testified in court.

According to the La Marque Police Department, the kidnapping occurred on September 20, 2024, when Porter abducted a woman at gunpoint from the Sam’s Club parking lot. With help from the League City Police Department, officers located Porter later that day and took him into custody.

Porter ultimately pled guilty to the kidnapping charge before sentencing. Law enforcement officials credited the coordinated work of La Marque detectives, the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, and assisting agencies for securing the conviction.
