FRIENDSWOOD — A traffic stop early Tuesday morning led to the arrest of a Richmond woman and the recovery of dozens of stolen checks, according to the Friendswood Police Department.

Around 1:03 a.m. on October 7, an officer observed a black Jeep Compass with Georgia plates driving suspiciously near E. Willowick Avenue and Morningside Drive. After the vehicle dropped off a passenger, the officer stopped it for a traffic violation.

The driver, identified as Jennifer Uchenna Ejismekwu, 26, was taken into custody after officers detected the odor of marijuana and found drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. A firearm was also recovered.

During an inventory of the vehicle, officers found 51 checks belonging to 36 individuals from Friendswood, League City, and Pearland. Several Friendswood residents confirmed they had recently mailed checks from the Friendswood Post Office’s outdoor mailbox.

The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office accepted felony charges against Ejismekwu for Fraudulent Use or Possession of Identifying Information and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.

Friendswood Police say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible. Anyone with information is asked to call the department at 281-996-3300.
