UPDATE: La Marque PD confirmed Wednesday evening that the suspect has been apprehended.

LA MARQUE — A woman who was shot Tuesday night in La Marque has died, and police are searching for a person of interest in the case.

La Marque police said officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area of Cedar Drive and Kirsten Street. When officers arrived, they found a 36-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Investigators obtained a search warrant and searched a home in the 1200 block of Kirsten Street, where the shooting occurred. The person of interest, identified as Keith Smith Ray Jr., born January 20, 2007, was not located during the search.

The La Marque Police Department is working closely with the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office as the investigation continues.
