LEAGUE CITY – A traffic stop in League City led to the arrest of a man identified as a wanted fugitive, according to police.
The League City Police Department said the stop occurred around 10:03 p.m. on March 21 in the 800 block of Hobbs Road. An officer stopped a vehicle for multiple equipment violations.
Police said the driver provided identifying information that did not match official records. During the investigation, officers determined the individual had provided a false identity and was in possession of fraudulent identification documents.
The man was taken into custody and transported to the League City Jail without incident.
Authorities later identified him as Meltron Alberty, 41, of Allen. According to police, Alberty was identified using fingerprint analysis and facial recognition technology.
Police said Alberty had two active felony warrants out of Dallas County for aggravated sexual assault of a child related to a probation violation. He was also listed as an absconded sex offender for failing to comply with registration requirements.
Alberty was charged with tampering with a government record, fraudulent use or possession of identifying information, failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements, and failure to identify as a fugitive from justice.
According to police, Alberty told officers he had been using a false identity and evading law enforcement for approximately 18 years.
