LA MARQUE – Police are investigating after human remains were discovered Wednesday in a wooded area off Highway 3.

According to authorities, a company conducting a land survey in the area came across the remains and notified law enforcement.

Officials say it is unclear how long the remains had been there, and at this time, they have not been linked to any missing person reports.

Search teams with Texas EquuSearch assisted in canvassing the area with dogs as part of the investigation.

The Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office has taken custody of the remains and is working to determine their identity. Police say it is unclear when more information will be released.

The investigation remains ongoing.
