DICKINSON – A Dickinson-based organization is making progress in its effort to restore the long-standing Harbour Playhouse and return it to use as a community arts space.
The Dickinson Music Enrichment Center, which is leading the project, says early evaluations of the building are now underway as part of a broader restoration plan.
A structural review has already been completed, with a formal report expected soon. Additional inspections, including testing for hazardous materials, are also scheduled as organizers work to determine the scope of repairs.
Leaders of the effort say they are also coordinating with local contractors for roofing assessments and exploring partnerships with design professionals to help map out a full renovation.
The project is drawing support from across the community, with several groups and businesses offering assistance as planning continues.
A court hearing connected to the property is set for April 16. Organizers say public support at that hearing could help demonstrate community interest in preserving the site.
Plans are also in the works to establish a formal committee or nonprofit structure to guide the restoration moving forward, with opportunities for community members to get involved.
Supporters say the goal is to bring the theatre back as a hub for local performances and youth arts programs, continuing its long-standing role in the area.
