Fire breaks out at historic Galveston loft, Thursday

GALVESTON — Fire crews responded Thursday night to a structure fire at The Historic Loft building in Galveston’s Strand area, where all occupants were able to make it out safely.

The fire was reported around 8:21 p.m. at 101 21st Street.

According to Fire Chief Mike Varela, crews arrived quickly and made entry into the building, where they discovered people were still inside. Everyone was safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control in about 20 minutes.

The response included four pumpers, two ladder trucks and mutual aid assistance from Jamaica Beach.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
